Architectural Design V

The "Architectural Design V" module focuses on urban place-making and responsive design for dense city environments. Students engage in townscape appraisals and develop architectural proposals emphasizing urban character, context, and community needs. Key learning outcomes include mastering urban analysis, legislative compliance, and innovative architectural responses. The module integrates lectures, tutorials, and independent study over 14 weeks, culminating in a design project addressing urban challenges through construction, spatial, and sustainable strategies. Assessments include group and individual tasks emphasizing critical thinking, creativity, and communication.

Phase 1.1: Preliminary studies – Townscape Appraisal
Phase 1.2: Urban Intervention 

The assignment focuses on designing a Learning Center in Kuala Lumpur's Merdeka 118 Precinct. It includes two phases: analyzing the urban context through townscape appraisal and proposing urban interventions to improve public spaces. Students must address urban character, sustainability, and community needs while ensuring designs align with local guidelines. Deliverables include site analysis, urban intervention proposals, and detailed presentations.

The project focuses on designing a Learning Centre in Kuala Lumpur's urban context, emphasizing placemaking and community integration. It involves phases for architectural strategy and design development, addressing urban issues, sustainability, and legislative compliance. Deliverables include SWOT analysis, site synthesis, spatial layouts, and façade designs, with key considerations for accessibility, environmental strategies, and urban identity.
